Our physical and emotional pain, ability to withstand pain, and processing of pain has more to do with the quality of our lives than any other parameter. This is part of the fundamental nature espoused by Mark Manson in his new book, Everything is Fucked Up, A Book About Hope. Where his previous book, The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck, was profound in its implications for our personal lives and pursuit of happiness. His second book is an order of magnitude greater in it’s realization of the first principles of living a meaningful and valued life. I encourage everyone to read it as it will have an impact on your thinking and feeling brains in a positive manner albeit difficult to consume as it confronts our collective and personal delusions of freedom to pursue happiness.
From the biz of you perspective, our resources of time, energy, and attention may be used to bring about a higher quality of life using the first principles brought to our attention in Mark’s book. It’s up to each and everyone of us to figure out how to deal with the pain we find in our internal and external lives. Whether we are facing difficulties at work, home, or defending our freedom of choice, it is our application of time, energy and attention towards our pain that will determine our success of our particular biz.
If you do choose to read Mark’s book, I hope you enjoy it as much as I have. I find it a practical look at what we face every day of our lives. I’m thankful for having come across it.
